E06-4 Smart card failure
The E04 smart card failure error is a common error in sun direct which arises due to a faulty smart card.
Are you getting the same error every time when you switch on the television? Here are the troubleshooting steps to rectify the error.
Smart card insertion
Either the smart card is not inserted properly or the card is not connected to the set-top box properly.
In such conditions, remove the card and re-insert the card properly into the set-top box.
Dust on the smart card
In case of any dust or water, the smart card chip surface may not be properly connected to the Set-top box. Hence check for any dust or other materials on the chip surface of the smart card.
Clean the chip surface with a neat dry cloth. Do not use any wet cloth or any other liquids to clean the surface of the smart card.
After cleaning, re-insert the smart card.
Broken smart card
A crack on the smart card near the chip surface may hamper proper connection. Though initially, it may function normally, repeated removal and re-insertion of the smart cards may hinder the proper connection of the smart card.
On long-standing, the broken smart cards become non-functional and require replacement.
set-top box problem
Some times set-top box may be faulty and may not recognize the smart card. If you are using the set-top box for the first time, then try to re-insert the smart card multiple times, so that the set-top box recognizes the smart card.
In case of repeated failed attempts, call customer care to replace the set-top box.
Check activated package
In the case of long-expired smart cards, we may find them non-functional.
The smart card which is non-functional for more than a year may require replacement and should be dealt with with customer support regarding re-activation.
