What is a DD-free dish?

Doordarshan’s DD Free Dish is India’s first multi-channel Free-To-Air & Direct to Home (DTH) service. The service was launched with 33 channels in December 2004. This service was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India.

DD Free Dish is continually upgraded. Doordarshan currently offers 64 SDTV channels as well as 24 radio channels on its DTH platform. DD Free Dish is available in Ku-Band via INSAT-4B (at 93.55degE). It features MPEG-2 DVBSS-S and 4 streams with Downlink Frequencies -10990, 11070, 11150, 11570 MHz.

Ku-Band DTH coverage covers India, except Andaman and Nicobar Islands. DTH signals can also be received by small dish receiver systems (e.g. You can have any size Set-Top Box, or Dish. It can measure 60-90cm in diameter. There is no monthly fee.

Doordarshan also offers separate DTH services in the C-Band with a selection of 10 channels exclusively for Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This service is also free-to-air.

Access to this C-Band DTH service is possible via INSAT-4B (at 93.5″E), with a downlink frequency of 3925 MHz or 27500 Ksps. FEC-3/4 can also be accessed. L.O.-5150MHz. The service is available to viewers through a small Dish Antenna that measures approximately 120cm in diameter.

What is it that makes it different than other DTH services

Many DTH Services offer paid DTH services, including in India. DTH operators transmit encrypted TV signals to satellites through the paid service. Subscribers can receive the signals via a Dish Receive system that includes a Dish Antenna and one Customized Set-Top Box (DIGITAL ENCODER) as well as a Dish Receiver System.

Subscribers receive a key code that allows them to access the channels through the set-top box they have customized. Subscribers can view these channels for a fee.

DD Free Dish is a totally different service. Doordarshan charges no monthly subscription fees for all DD Free Dish channels. The system is very affordable because there is only a one-time investment required to buy the Dish Receive System, which includes a Set-Top-Boxes as well as a small-sized Dish Antenna.

Subscription fee

There is no subscription required to receive the DD Free Dish Signal. It is completely free. Only one purchase is required to receive the equipment. You can also purchase this equipment on the open market for a minimal cost. A Receive System can be purchased for as little as Rs.2000

Is it possible to fix the DTH myself?

Yes. It is best to have an experienced technician install your new system. They will be able to diagnose and correct any problems during installation.

How to update the DD-free channel list

These are the steps to scan and search channels in DD Free Dish DTH Banquet.

Press the ‘Menu’ Button on the remote control of the DD Free Dish Set-Top-Box.

Click on “Installation” and “Setup Programme”
