what is TDR in IRCTC?

TDR full form is “Ticket Deposit Receipt” in IRCTC or Indian railways. It is a process of claiming refund for the tickets that we have booked through IRCTC.

When should TDR be submitted/filed?

Partially confirmed tickets – All tickets cancellation

If you don’t want to travel with partially confirmed tickets and want to cancel your online ticket, then TDR shall be filed within the time limits prescribed under these rules for obtaining refund.

TDR shall be filed for all the passengers up to thirty minutes before the scheduled departure of the train

For confirmed tickets: Full refund of fare, less clerkage, shall be admissible

For waiting list tickets: Full refund of fare

Partially confirmed tickets – only RAC & Waiting list cancellation

If you want to cancel only those passengers who got RAC and waiting list, then TDR can be filed for them up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.

In case of passengers or RAC or waiting list not traveling, a certificate shall be obtained from the ticket checking staff to that effect, and refund of fare shall be processed online through TDR, indicating the details of the certificate issued by ticket checking staff and the online TDR shall be filed up to seventy-two hours of actual arrival of the train at passengers’ destination and the original certificate issued by ticket checking staff shall be sent through post to:

TDR for Train diverted

In case the train is diverted, TDR shall be filed up to seventy-two hours of scheduled departure of the train at passengers’ boarding station

TDR for Train running late

In case the Train Running More than Three hours Late and the passenger is not willing to travel, TDR is filed online before the actual departure of the train for availing full refund.

TDR for partially used ticket

Where a passenger terminates the journey en route, a ticket deposit receipt (TDR) shall be issued to the ticket holder by the station master of the station in lieu of surrender of the ticket. It has to be sent through post to

Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.

In case of offline ticket, The TDR shall be issued only up to three days after the scheduled departure of the train.

In case of e-ticket / online ticket, TDR is filed online up to 72 hours after the scheduled departure of the train. Passenger may apply for refund of fare within ten days from the date of commencement of journey.

TDR for non-functioning of air conditioning in air-conditioned coaches

Where the air-conditioning facility could not be provided for a portion of journey, refund on tickets issued for air-conditioned coaches shall be granted for such portion on the following basis namely

  1. If the ticket is for air-conditioned first class, the difference between the air-conditioned first-class fare and first-class fare.
  2. If the ticket is for air-conditioned II-tier or air-conditioned III-tier class, the difference between airconditioned II-tier or air-conditioned III tier class fare and sleeper class fare (Mail and Express).
  3. If the ticket is for air-conditioned chair car, the difference between air-conditioned chair car fare and second-class fare (Mail and Express).
  4. If the ticket is for executive class, the difference between the notified executive class fare for the concerned section and first-class fare (Mail and Express) for the concerned distance of that section.

Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the original certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls

Online ticketOffline ticket
In case of e-ticket, the online TDR shall be filed up to twenty hours of actual arrival of the train at passenger’s destination and the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) at the time of journey is to be send to following address: through post:  

Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.
In case of i-ticket, the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) at the time of journey is to be send to following address through post:  

Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.

TDR when passenger is made to travel in lower class

If the ticket holder of a higher class is made to travel in a lower class for want accommodation in the class for which the ticket was issued, refund of the difference between the fare paid and the fare payable shall be repaid by filing TDR.  

Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the original certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls

Online ticketOffline ticket
TDR shall be filed within two days of the date of issue of the certificate (excluding the day of issue of the certificate) and the original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) at the time of journey is to be send to following address:   Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.The original certificate (GC/EFT) issued by the ticket checking staff (TTE) at the time of journey is to be send to following address through post:   Group General Manager/IT, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd., Internet Ticketing Centre, IRCA Building, State Entry Road, New Delhi – 110055.

TDR Submission Not Required

Ticket not confirmed or in waiting list

In case of wait-listed e-tickets on which of all the passengers is on waiting list even after preparation of reservation chart, names of all such passengers booked on that Passenger Name Record (PNR) shall be dropped from the reservation chart and refund of fare shall be credited to the account from which booking transaction took place after deducting clerkal charge.

Train cancelled

In case of cancellation of trains, automatic full refund of fare on confirmed or RAC e-tickets shall be directly credited to the account from which booking transaction took place and online cancellation or filing of TDR shall not be required in such case.

Late TDR filing

No refund shall be granted on partially confirmed E-Ticket against which none of the passengers has travelled if TDR is filed after 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. It means any TDR should be filed 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.

No refund shall be granted on Partial RAC/WAITLISTED TICKET against which none of the passengers has travelled, if TDR is filed after 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train.

No refund will be granted in case of train running more than three hours late if TDR is filled with this reason after actual departure of the train.

What should I do if I am unable to cancel my ticket online for an Online ticket?

Remember Online tickets must be cancelled online only. If customer is not able to cancel through web interface before Chart Preparation, customers are requested to send an email from the email ID to mailto:etickets@irctc.co.in from their registered e-mail id with IRCTC.

How many days TDR will be refunded?

Usually, it takes 60 days for the amount to be refunded from IRCTC. Refund will be processed through TDR only after receiving the original certificate (GC/EFT). IRCTC will forward the claim to Concerned Zonal Railways under whose jurisdiction the train destination falls. After receipt of the refund amount from the said Railway, refund amount will be credited back to same account of user through which payment was made through opted payment Gateway.

How to file TDR in IRCTC website?

To file TDR online follow the steps described below.

For filing online TDR, select �File Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR)� from menu �Services�. For the ticket booked at old site, select �Old Transaction History� from menu �My Transactions� and after getting the password verified select �File TDR� link in the left panel under the “My Transactions” menu.

How to file TDR for Tatkal tickets?

You can file TDR for tatkal tickets only when you have confirmed tickets.

You can file TDR only when the train is either cancelled or when the train is running late by more than 3 hours.

  1. Login to your IRCTC account
  2. Click on the booked ticket history and select the tatkal ticket you want to file TDR
  3. Select the PNR of the ticket and click on “File TDR”
  4. Select the passenger’s name from the passenger list of the ticket to claim refund.

What are the IRCTC TDR rules?

TDR filing for tickets booked through agents

The Authorized Agents of IRCTC cannot file TDRs online. They must send a mail to IRCTC for filing TDR. The customers who must claim refunds against the tickets purchased through the Agents should approach the concerned Agent for filing TDR.
